Badia a Passignano
One of the oldest areas of Chianti ClassicoBadia a Passignano
One of the oldest areas of Chianti ClassicoThe Antinori family has been dedicated to wine production for over six hundredyears. Since then, in 1385, Giovanni di Piero Antinori became a member of the Arte Fiorentina dei Vinattieri. Throughout its long history, spanning 26 generations, the family has always managed this activity directly, making innovative and sometimes brave choices, but always maintaining an unchanged respect for tradition and territory.
Badia a Passignano is situated on Sambuca Val di Pesa, 3 km south of Tenuta Tignanello, covering a total area of 223 hectares, 65 of which are planted with vines. Its fundamental importance in the history of Chianti is recorded in hundreds of volumes, now kept in the State Archives in Florence, which give information about the Sangiovese vineyards and crops in the region. As confirmation of this, in 1983, in the land around Badia a Passignano, a thousand-year-old vitis vinifera plant, was found.
