2020 Herdade da Maroteira Cem Reis Syrah Reserva red
Description
Produced from the Syrah grape variety, this wine has aged for 16 months in French and American oak barrels. It exhibits a highly concentrated color, with warm and intense notes of black fruits and spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied, well-balanced, with well-defined and round tannins.
Herdade da Maroteira is located at the foot of Serra D'Ossa, and spreads over 540 hectares, owned by the same Anglo-Portuguese family for 5 generations, since the mid-19th century. At that time, Robert Reynolds invested in the Alentejo cork oak forest to meet the needs of the Port Wine industry in northern Portugal, and for some 150 years, the focus of the estate's production was cork and cattle. It was not until the year 2000 that Philip Mollet, the current owner and manager of the estate revolutionised the estate's strategy and planted vines. Since then, the estate has produced excellent Alentejo wines based on the preferred grape variety, Syrah.
The vines are spread over the 15 hectares planted on clay-limestone soils, giving the wines the genuine character of the Alentejo.
