2021 Casal Sta. Maria Sauvignon Blanc white
Description
The Casal Sta. Maria Sauvignon Blanc is a white wine from the Lisbon region, crafted from vineyards near Praia da Adraga and Galamares, where the strong Atlantic influence shapes its distinctive character. Fermented mainly in stainless steel, with a small proportion aged in French oak and matured on fine lees with bâtonnage, it displays elegant aromas of asparagus, white pepper and mineral, saline notes. The palate is fresh, well-balanced and beautifully textured, delivering an elegant, food-friendly white wine with remarkable finesse.
With a history dating back to the early 18th century, the main house was built in 1720 and surprisingly managed to survive the 1755 earthquake, due to the granite structure of the Sintra Mountains. In 1903 wine was no longer produced, but 100 years later, most western vineyards in Europe were replanted and the winery modernised. The wines from Casal Sta. Maria are the result of Nature's expression and the unique terroir surrounding the vineyards, which are located on the coastal edge of Serra de Sintra.
