2022 Quinta de San Michel Curtimenta white
Description
The Quinta de San Michel Curtimenta white is a wine made from the Malvasia and Arinto grape varieties, planted on clay-limestone soils and under the influence of a temperate Mediterranean climate with proximity to the sea. After 12 months in used oak barrels and 9 months in the bottle, this wine reaches a remarkable maturity.
With a golden yellow colour, the nose reveals a rich complexity with aromas of citrus fruit, peach, melon, acacia, orange peel, orange blossom, smoke, honey and resin. On the palate, it stands out for its dry profile, with a vibrant acidity that balances its ample volume in the mouth. The tanning process gives it a slight astringent touch, which culminates in a long, saline finish that is persistent and captivating.
The Quinta de San Michel, located in the village of Janas, Sintra, is part of the historic wine-growing region of Colares, between the Serra de Sintra and the Atlantic Ocean. Since 2013, with vineyards planted on two hectares, the family has been producing exclusive wines that reflect the quinta's unique terroir. Focussing on indigenous grape varieties such as Arinto, Malvasia de Colares and Galego Dourado, the Quinta expanded in 2023 to a further five hectares, with the emphasis on Malvasia de Colares and Ramisco, on sandy soils typical of the region.
