2023 Max Ferd. Richter Riesling Classic white
Description
The grapes for this Riesling were hand-harvested from the Max Ferd. Richter vineyards, located in the Mülheim and Veldenz valleys, south of the Mosel River. The vines, around 50 years old, grow on slate soils covered with pebbles, formed during the last great ice age. Combining the character of the terroir with pre-fermentation maceration and temperature-controlled fermentation in traditional oak casks, this wine reveals floral and fruity notes, such as white peach, fresh apple, and pear, without losing the complexity of smoke and its distinctive mineral profile.
After the first documented purchase of a vineyard parcel in Brauneberg on April 17th, 1643, the company was officially founded in 1680, establishing a winemaking legacy with over 300 years of history. Since then, the family has adhered to the motto: "Great wines are made in the vineyard, not in the cellar." In 1774, an elegant manor house was built, and in 1880, the modern winery was established, housing one of the largest collections of wooden casks in the Mosel region. Today, the company is in its 9th generation, with Constantin MF Richter, from the 10th generation, actively involved in the business since 2012.
