Concorso Enologico Internazionale Città del Vino 2026 - Gold Medal
2024 Alcateia red
Description
Alcateia red is crafted from Alicante Bouschet, Castelão and Tinta Caiada grapes grown exclusively at Herdade da Retortinha in the northern Alentejo. The vineyards, planted at around 200 metres of altitude on vertically layered schist soils, produce a wine that faithfully expresses the character of this distinctive terroir.
It displays a vibrant garnet colour. The nose reveals aromas of wild berries and fruit preserve, which carry through to the palate in a balanced, smooth and generously flavoured profile.
The finish is elegant and persistent, reflecting the authenticity of its grape varieties and the identity of the Alentejo.
Herdade da Retortinha is a family-owned estate located in the municipality of Sousel, Portalegre, where an unusual highland Alentejo landscape gives rise to wines of distinctive character. Since 2015, the family has been dedicated to interpreting this unique terroir while preserving the balance between the vineyards, biodiversity and the surrounding environment.
Guided by a sustainable philosophy and a commitment to making a positive impact on the land and the region, Herdade da Retortinha crafts authentic wines that faithfully express their origin and the passion of those who produce them.
