The Alvarinho variety has remained in the Melgaço region for years, and traditionally the vines were planted on the edges of the fields, with cereals taking centre stage in the plots. In 1974, João António Cerdeira and his parents, António Esteves Ferreira and Maria Cerdeira decided to break this tradition and planted the first continuous vineyard plot of Alvarinho variety in Melgaço, which was baptized with the name "Soalheiro", due to its solar exposure. The pioneering spirit of João António marked the history of the family, which is since then linked to the production of Alvarinho in Melgaço. Today, it is the third generation that continues the legacy, extending the vision to organic production.
