Description

Laphroaig Cask Quarter is initially matured in American oak barrels and then transferred to the "quarter casks", smaller barrels, for a final stage lasting between seven and eight months. As a result, it receives 30% more wood contact than other single malts aged in larger barrels, more commonly used, giving a very special character to the distillate. On tasting, the whisky starts sweet and creamy, with notes of vanilla, honey, and ripe malt, then releases its signature peat, seaweed, tar, and medicinal notes.

Founded in 1815 by two farmers, Donald and Alexander Johnston, the Laphroaig distillery, so-called because of its location, ''wide hollow by the bay'', is situated on the south coast of Islay Island.

Laphroaig presents a diverse range of single malt whiskies, all with an engaging and quite distinctive profile, where the pungent earthy aromas of smoked blue peat, the sweetness of barley, and the healthy fragrance of Islay streams, reveal themselves with every taste.

It's 200 years of perfecting the distilling technique, family history and indeed of Scotch whisky itself.
