Founded in 1849 by Adolphe and Edouard-Jean Cointreau in Angers, France, Cointreau was born from the desire to create a spirit that made full use of the exceptional quality of the local fruit. In 1875, after countless experiments, the iconic orange liqueur was finally created, presented in its distinctive square amber bottle.
Crafted from a balanced blend of sweet and bitter orange peels, Cointreau offers an intense aromatic profile that is fresh, smooth and delicately bitter. The peels, carefully selected, are dried, macerated and distilled in copper stills to extract the full richness of their essential oils.
Versatile and elegant, Cointreau can be enjoyed neat, over ice, or as the base of some of the world’s most classic cocktails.
