In 1830 Don José Caballero founded the Bodegas Caballero. With Bassinet in Galicia, the family, settled in Puerto de Santa Maria, joined the former Galician tradition of "burning" the brandy of Jerez mixing in oranges and other fruits macerated in sugar cane molasses. Made a liqueur which he called Ponche Caballero which began to be bottled in 1917 and today is the most consumed liquor in Spain and one of the most sold in the world. Over six generations, the family members have created other liqueurs and brandies, which complete the range Caballero, consolidating its international prestige.

Ponche Caballero is produced through a long and painstaking process that uses a selection of brandies marinated with spices and fruits chosen for their quality. It may be taken alone or with ice, and is delicious mixed with cola, lemon and energy drinks.
