2023 Max Ferd. Richter Veldenzer Elisenberg Riesling Spätlese white

The Max Ferd. Richter Veldenzer Elisenberg Riesling Spätlese is an elegant wine from a 45-year-old vineyard, planted southeast of the Mosel River, in an area that benefits from a unique microclimate, reminiscent of Saar-Ruwer wines. The privileged location imparts distinctive characteristics, resulting in a wine of great complexity.

The Riesling grapes are carefully hand-harvested, and the must is fermented with temperature control in traditional old oak barrels, using indigenous yeasts to preserve the authentic character of the terroir. This Riesling Spätlese reveals a deep and engaging nose, with aromas of pear, tannin, ginger, and notes of Provençal herbs, accompanied by a subtle hint of smoke. The sweetness and acidity are perfectly balanced, offering an elegant finish that highlights the typicity of the region and the ageing potential of this wine.

After the first documented purchase of a vineyard parcel in Brauneberg on April 17th, 1643, the company was officially founded in 1680, establishing a winemaking legacy with over 300 years of history. Since then, the family has adhered to the motto: "Great wines are made in the vineyard, not in the cellar." In 1774, an elegant manor house was built, and in 1880, the modern winery was established, housing one of the largest collections of wooden casks in the Mosel region. Today, the company is in its 9th generation, with Constantin MF Richter, from the 10th generation, actively involved in the business since 2012.
