概要
Safe from the reach of the law, George Connell begins distilling in secret at Burnfoot Farm, in 1820 – where you’ll find today’s Glengoyne Distillery. The hidden waterfall and its miniature glen make it easy for George to escape the notice of the Exciseman. He’s not the first to distil here illegally – it’s reckoned George learned the stillman’s art from his grandfather. Rumour has it that Cochrane was the illegitimate offspring of one of the original Lang Brothers. Nobody is entirely sure. In any case, he was held in the highest regard and served here for thirty years. The booming sherry business produces a steady supply of imported sherry casks. They start using them consistently to mature that spirit and the taste of the whisky is utterly transformed, becoming softer and more complex. What began as a sharp way to save a few shillings is now the most expensive way to mature whisky and an essential part of the flavour of Glengoyne.
