Oban The Soul of Calipso 2023 Special Release 11 years is a limited edition whisky from Diageo.

This whisky reveals itself on the nose soft notes of bananas and a general fruitiness, with a touch of esters and herbs. The freshness of orange peel, the carbonisation of lemon peel and pickled apricots also stand out. On tasting, the arrival is quite aggressive, almost spicy. A good dose of salt accompanied by spices, charred oak and noticeable nutty flavours. The finish is short to medium, with lingering spices, eucalyptus, almond paste and a delicate sweetness.

When brothers Hugh and John Stevenson landed on the border of the Hebridean Islands in 1793, they found little more than a natural harbour and a windy landscape. In this setting, they founded the Oban Brewing Company, starting production of the remarkable 'Cowbell Ale'. The following year, they embarked on distilling whisky. The endeavour remained under the command of the Stevenson family for three generations, until it was acquired by local merchant Peter Cumpstie in 1830. The year 1880 marked a turning point with the arrival of the railway in Oban, ushering in a new era of improved communication and transport. Today, Oban stands out as one of Scotland's smallest and most distinctive whisky distilleries.
