Port wine is a Portuguese fortified wine produced in the Douro Demarcated Region under peculiar conditions derived from natural and human factors. It's a unique product with a centuries-old history and quality recognised worldwide. Learn about the different styles and categories of this wine, and remember this when choosing Port:
Ruby:
Fresh, fruity wines that preserve a youthful profile. They include the "Ruby", "Ruby Reserva", "LBV", "Crusted" and "Vintage" categories. The best, such as "Vintage", "Crusted" and "LBV" unfiltered, gain complexity over time.
Tawny:
Obtained by blending wines aged in wood. They vary in colour and have aromas of dried fruit and spices. They include the categories "Tawny", "Tawny Reserve", "Tawny with Indication of Age" (10 to 50 years), "Very Very Old" and "Harvest Date". These wines are ready for consumption after bottling.
White Port:
White Port varies in styles associated with different ageing periods and sweetness (extra-dry, dry, medium-dry, sweet and very sweet or teardrop). It has fresh floral and fruity aromas or more traditional aromas of ripe, dried fruit.
Rosé Port:
Rosy-coloured wines obtained by light maceration of red grapes and limited to oxidation phenomena during production and ageing before bottling. They have an exuberant flavour with notes of cherry, raspberry and strawberry. They are smooth and pleasant and ideal for drinking chilled, on the rocks or in cocktails.
Port is a versatile and delicious product that can be enjoyed on different occasions. Discover a new world of flavours.
