Old Douro vineyardsThe Bota Velha Project, led by renowned winemaker João Silva e Sousa, is an initiative dedicated to the preservation and valorisation of old vineyards in the Douro region. This project arises from the need to protect and promote vineyards with centuries of history, whose deep roots and limited yields are the result of natural selection over generations.
With an approach that combines tradition and innovation, the Bota Velha Project seeks to recover the Douro's wine heritage through vineyards that represent the true essence of the region. Many of these virtually forgotten vineyards have unique characteristics that are reflected in the creation of highly prestigious wines, characterised by a singular balance and the authenticity of their aromas.
Through this initiative, João Silva e Sousa not only rescues the oenological memory of the Douro, but also boosts its future, focusing on sustainability and maintaining viticultural practices that respect the terroir. With limited production and extreme care in every stage of winemaking, the wines produced in the Bota Velha Project stand out for their depth, complexity and great ageing capacity, celebrating the history and legacy of the old vines that have stood the test of time.
