2024 Barroca da Malhada Arinto white
Description
Barroca da Malhada Arinto white is produced exclusively from the Arinto grape variety, with hand harvesting, spontaneous fermentation and low intervention in the cellar. Fermentation takes place in third-use Portuguese chestnut barrels under temperature control, followed by seven months of ageing on full lees. Made without added sulphites, chestnut blossom powder is used as a natural alternative with preservative and antioxidant properties.
It shows a pale straw colour with golden highlights, reflecting the influence of wood. On the nose, it reveals notable complexity, with subtle notes of toast and brioche balanced by the variety’s characteristic citrus expression. On the palate, it is intense and structured, driven by vibrant acidity and supported by texture, creaminess and a crisp finish.
Barroca da Malhada is an artisanal wine producer from Beira Interior, rooted in a historic estate dating back to the Middle Ages, once owned by the Viscounts of Tinalhas. With around five hectares of vineyards farmed organically and following biodynamic practices, the estate works schist-sandy soils of granitic origin in one of Portugal’s most mountainous regions. The wines reflect a low-intervention approach, favouring authenticity, freshness and a true expression of place.
