Description

This Quinta do Mouro is a gastronomic wine with a strong identity, produced from grapes from vineyards planted at an altitude of 450 metres on schist, marble and limestone soils in an area with a Mediterranean climate. It has an intense ruby colour and great aromatic complexity, having aged for 14 months in Portuguese oak barrels. On the palate it is full-bodied, with round tannins and a powerful but elegant structure, showing an excellent balance between black fruit notes combined with vegetal, earthy notes and nuances of spice. It also has some acidity, which gives it freshness and minerality, something not often seen in Alentejo reds. The finish is round and long, promising a good evolution in the bottle over the years.

Situated in the center of the city of Estremoz, the Quinta stands out for its beauty and its history, with a palatial building of 18th century architecture, beautiful gardens, groves, bougainvillea, tanks and other works of art from the 18th century, and currently, also for its excellent wines.

The Quinta was for many years in the possession of the Zagalo family, who used it as a holiday home, but unfortunately in 1974, with the revolution of the 25th of April, the house and farm were invaded and abandoned.

In 1979 the property was bought by Miguel Louro, who is still the owner today, starting wine production in the 1980s.
