The Fonseca 2009 blend is based on wines from Quinta do Panascal and Quinta do Cruzeiro and, in small quantities, Quinta de Santo Antonio. It has an impenetrable black colour. The nose is classic Fonseca, dominated by lush, luscious fruit, displaying a powerful perfume of blackberry and redcurrant and slowly releasing a complex and intoxicating mix of spicy and herbal aromas, seductive notes of coffee and cocoa and hints of plum and wild cistus. The compact but velvety tannins give the wine a voluptuous density, integrating easily with the magnificent infusion of blackberry jam, dark chocolate and liquorice that coats the palate. The tannins are present right through to the finish, which is bursting with blackberry and redcurrant flavours.
