Description
Blandy's Terrantez 20-year-old Terrantez is aged for 20 years in American oak casks in the traditional 'Canteiro' process. This includes gentle heating of the wine in the cellar of the cellars in Funchal. Over the years the wine is transferred from the top floors to the middle floors and eventually to the ground floor where it is cooler. After this 'gradual steeping,' the wine is filtered and clarified before being bottled. Blandy's Terrantez 20 year old is fined and does not require decanting. It is excellent as an aperitif but is also a great accompaniment to soups, game, and pâtés. It was bottled ready to drink but will keep in good condition for several months after opening. Topaz colour, with a golden halo at the top. An elegant bouquet of dried fruits, wood, and spices. Fresh, medium dry, and concentrated, with very balanced acidity. Long finish, of spices, dried fruits, and wood.
The Madeira Wine Company was originally an association of several Madeira wine producing companies, who decided to join forces to strengthen their buying and winemaking capabilities. This Association was founded in 1913. During the years of discord, the old family companies of Blandy's and Leacock joined together, followed immediately after the dispute by Miles and Cossart Gordon, thus creating the largest producer and exporter of Madeira wine. Whatever the size, maintaining the unique characteristics and style of each company was at the centre of the association's attention. By the late 1970s, interests in the Madeira Wine Company, as it became known, were reduced to just a handful of the original families with the Blandy family holding the controlling share. In 1989 the Blandy family, needing to strengthen the sales and marketing side of the business, invited the Symington family of Oporto, Portugal to join them in partnership. This partnership has continued to the present day, allowing the Madeira Wine Company to play a leading role in the development of the Madeira Wine trade.
