2019 Max Ferd. Richter Riesling Classic white

After the first title-deed in Brauneberg on 17th April 1643, the company was founded in 1680 and its winemaking tradition can be traced back over 300 years of family history, always with the maxim: "Great wines are made in the vineyard, not in the cellar".

In 1774, the founder's grandson built a beautiful manor house with a garden in the architectural style that prevailed at the time. Almost a century later, in 1880, Max Ferd.Richter built a modern cellar housing one of the largest collections of wooden casks in the Mosel region.  The company is currently in the 9th generation of the family, with a member of the 10th generation, Constantin MF Richter, already taking an active part in its business since the summer of 2012.

The grapes for this Riesling were hand-picked from the vineyards of Max Ferd. Richter's estate, located in the Mülheim and Veldenz valley, south of the Mosel River.  The vineyards, which are about 50 years old, are planted on slate soils covered with pebbles as a result of the last great ice age. Combining the terroir factor with pre-fermentative maceration and temperature-controlled fermentation in traditional oak casks, this wine manages to offer floral and fruity notes such as white peach, fresh apple and pear, without subtracting nuances of smoke and its typical mineral profile.
