Still in 1860, Madame Pommery shows that was a great entrepreneur, when inheriting of the husband the business in the champagne branch, widow and with 2 small children, without understanding of this business, was not intimidated and took control of the company. She expanded the land, acquired subterranean tunnels, built a real English-style castle, distinguished from other producers at a time when champagnes were synonymous of luxury and had already gained the taste of royalty. In 1874, to meet the English taste, which was considered the champagnes produced until then too sweet, created the first Champagne Brut, with less sugar and revolutionized the way to produce champagne. Today, approximately 5.5 million bottles are produced per year, including all brand lines.
