Founded in 1963, it is one of Portugal's most emblematic producers. The Fundação Eugénio de Almeida is an institution of private law and public utility, headquartered in Évora. Its Statutes were drafted by Vasco Maria Eugénio de Almeida, who created it in 1963.
After the 1980s, after the return of the assets expropriated during the Agrarian Reform period, the Foundation began a phase of asset re-launching and created a reference agricultural and industrial operation aimed at ensuring the economic self-sustainability of the Institution and the pursuit of its purposes, while also contributing to the promotion of the socio-economic development of the region. This project highlights the viticulture and viniculture and olive growing, activities from which result in the wines produced at the Cartuxa Winery, including the emblematic Pêra-Manca and Cartuxa, and the olive oils produced at the Cartuxa Lagar.
